| spa |
dc.description.abstract | This project focuses on the numerical investigation of the supersonic flow generated by a freely expanding jet. Simulations are developed for a specific configuration, the experimental one studied by Ladenburg that has data to contrast. This configuration is computationally represented using a rectangular domain over which the jet expands through an inlet region with diameter ($D$), considering different expansion ratios and carrying out contrasts with the experimental results of the structure. with experimental results of the jet structure and comparisons of parameters such as the location of the first Mach disk. In addition, the evolution of the flow is analyzed showing distributions of the different variables of interest commenting on their behavior and highlighting how their evolution corresponds to the supersonic flow theory. To obtain the results presented here, the \emph{solver} \verb+rhoCentralFoam+ from the open source package \openFoam+ was used to obtain the results presented here. Thus, not only the theoretical foundations necessary to explain the structure of a jet are incorporated in the work, but also elements of the numerical tools used. | eng |
