Sede Bogotá., ) Mejía, María Eugenia; Ibañez Velandia, Aura YanethIn the present work, the pedagogical experience oriented with the purpose of designing a pedagogical proposal that, based on the adequate management of solid waste, contributes to articulate the social service to the improvement of the environmental training of students at the level of secondary education the Educational Institution Barrios Unidos del Sur. In that sense, the process was guided from the perspective of directly involving students who provide social service in inquiry activities on the problem of pollution by concept of inappropriate solid waste management and on that basis concrete actions were planned to solve contribute to the solution of the problem under study. The process of inquiry and subsequent design of the pedagogical proposal, took into account the contributions of other related works carried out at international and national level, as well as the existing theoretical foundations that on environmental education, highlight the need to strengthen from the educational institutions , a formation that engages society in general, in the realization of concrete actions aimed at minimizing the damage generated by the different ways of contaminating the environment and affecting not only the nature but the life of the people themselves. The methodology was based on orienting the social service of middle school students towards the planning of concrete actions tending to have a more objective knowledge of reality, sensitizing them on the problem that represents the inappropriate management of solid waste and in that way, Engage them to participate in concrete actions through which the educational community is sensitized to the importance of properly handling solid waste. It is concluded that from educational institutions it is possible to generate pedagogical proposals that directly involve students in concrete actions aimed at improving the awareness of educational communities about the need and benefits It represents the proper management of solid waste in the reorientation of training in environmental education, taking advantage of spaces that, like the social service of middle school students, allow their knowledge to be transferred to the solution of problems in the institutional and local environment.
