- ÍtemLa huerta casera, una herramienta pedagógica para aprender haciendo y mejorar comiendo(Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores. Sede Bogotá., ) Ipia Pardo, Joel; Pérez Benítez, Johan HernánOne of the main causes of poor academic performance and school desertion is malnutrition, given that it directly affects the physical and cognitive potential of students, due to the lack of micronutrients, vitamins and minerals that the body needs for optimal developing. At the General Santander Educational Institution, located in the municipality of Yumbo (Valle del Cauca), the student population is no stranger to this scourge; in it we observe more frequently, signs of morbidity (headache, lethargy, loss of appetite and syncope) and absenteeism of our students. Faced with this, we set out as teachers to identify the causes and seek strategies that can be implemented as alternative solutions. We take as study population 310 students from the 5 Headquarters of the Institution and as a sample of 30 sixth and seventh grade students, from 12 villages, of families of social stratum 1 who derive their livelihood from small areas of land they own, of blue-collar labor, and a small number, such as employees of different companies in an industrial municipality par excellence. With An anthropometric assessment was carried out on them and the habits and food diets of their homes; The results allowed us to deduce that, although anthropometric measurements were within standards established by the WHO, the daily intake consisted mainly of foods rich in carbohydrates, before which we could intervene from the pedagogical exercise to help mitigate a generalized situation, aggravated due to ignorance, poor eating habits and the COVID pandemic 19.
