Introduction the mother tongue is the first language that a person learns in his life and allows him to have contact and function in the world, becoming his natural instrument of thought and communication. This differs from the second language to the non-native language of a person or territory, that is, a language learned after the critical period of acquisition by a person after being a competent speaker of their mother tongue. Although the Castilian language has great dominance in the country, there are native languages that have survived to this day. One of these is called Nasa-Yuwe and is spoken by the indigenous people of the Páez community in the country. The mother tongue is a cultural legacy and is part of the growth and development of this community. Therefore, it is essential to preserve and strengthen it. Also promoting understanding, tolerance and respect between different cultures. The mother tongue is a differentiating aspect that shapes our paradigms and influences the idiosyncrasy of a people. The Nasa people or Páez -whose mother tongue is Nasa Yuwe- is a population located geographically mostly (according to the DANE 2005 census) in the department of Cauca. In this department lives 88.6% of the population (164,973 people)
