Sede Bogotá., ) Duran Romero, Maria Alexandra;; Forigua Parra, John EdwardThe main objective of this research is to identify the biological and sociodemographic characteristics of the parents, which determine the low weight and overweight at birth in term infants in the department of the goal in the period 2012-2015. From the data of 58,062 live birth records from 2012 to 2015, a descriptive analysis of the biological, social, demographic and health care variables related to the mother, the father and the newborn was performed, hypothesis tests of independence, calculation of OR and the elaboration of logistic regression models to explain which are associated with the respective tests. As a result, it is observed that the low birth weight varied between 2.01 and 2.5% in the analyzed period, lower than the national data and overweight was between 6.1 and 6.9%, which is lower than some International reports The tendency was to remain constant in the analyzed period, being presented in the 29 municipalities of the department but with more unfavorable results only in 34.5% of them. For the low weight, of the 9 variables analyzed, 5 presented association and are: female sex of the newborn (OR = 1.28), multiple pregnancy (OR = 26.29), age of the mother (OR = 1.42) , mother with no ability to pay (OR = 1.19) and father at risk age (OR = 1.45) showed association. For overweight, of the 8 variables analyzed, 3 presented association and are: the male sex of the newborn (OR = 1.90), mother over 30 years (OR = 1.42), five or more children (OR = 1 , 46) Female. The investigation allows us to conclude that some characteristics of the mother such as age, multiparity, ability to pay, female sex in the newborn, multiple pregnancy and the father at risk age are associated with the BPN. Similarly, overweight at birth, is related to male sex of the newborn, mother over 30 years and with five or more children
