Sede Bogotá., ) Castillo Soto, Fabian; Cuervo, Luz MarinaThe main objective of this research is to design a virtual learning object to strengthen the comprehension processes in problem solving in the area of mathematics for fourth grade students. The work has research, social and educational relevance because it is oriented to the improvement of the teaching and learning processes of mathematics in terms of problem solving. The methodology is qualitative, with descriptive scope, and is framed within the parameters of Educational Action Research. The collection of information was carried out through the application of techniques such as telephone interviews with students and teachers, application workshop guide and focus group with teachers where the designed virtual object was socialized. Thus, two phases were worked on, the first one identified the students' problem solving process and the methodology used by the teachers to teach them, making clear the need to improve the teaching processes in terms of interpretation and characterization of the information of the mathematical problem to reach the resolution. From these results it is possible to generate the contents of the virtual object and subsequent design of the same, the proposal called "the island of problems" is presented to the teachers of the institution and it is found that the design is relevant to the needs of students and contributes to the methodology of the teacher in the classroom
