An analysis of the figures by grades in the John F. Kennedy Educational Institution consigned in the minutes of the evaluation and promotion commissions gave as a result that in the groups that attend the tenth-grade high failure results are presented, for which reason it has been become a concern at the institutional level, especially in these last two years in which the pandemic generated by COVID 19 has caused intermittence, demotivation, dropouts and loss of the school year. So, through a mixed methodology, with a sequential exploratory design applied to a probabilistic sample of tenth grade students who, during the 2021 school year, have failed one or more subjects in the academic periods, the factors that determine the subject failure to propose support strategies to reverse, face or overcome this problem. The study determined that personal factors have a greater incidence than family, social or institutional factors, but that they should still be considered in an institutional improvement plan.
