Sede Bogotá., ) Cervantes Forero, Nelson René; Guzmán Rodríguez, Gloria JannethThe present research shows the benefits when implementing mind maps in the learning-teaching processes at a rural high school in Arauca-Colombia, through the development of a methodology that enhances the appropriation of this technique aimed at improving their academic performance and raise environmental sanitation awareness. Analyses evidence the two results of the bimonthly exams that were administered each academic term, which were contrasted with those made the previous year. The study revealed how mind mapping helped students to better comprehend the academic topics, improved their argumentative ability when making the oral defense of the maps and made them more self-critical in the prevention of infectious or contagious diseases caused by a lack of basic sanitation and environmental hygiene.
