Sede Bogotá., ) Angulo Palacio, Olindo; Cantor Gutiérrez, Carlos Alberto; Ortiz Franco, Juan VicenteThe concern from all fields of knowledge has one of the central axes, the study on climate change, whose effects are still far from being interpreted in its true dimension and it is up to the whole society to assume a leading role to mitigate its impact. Nowadays, and for more than three decades in Colombia, we have talked about the handling of all types of waste and especially about hazardous waste. There are several laws, decrees and guidelines related with at schools that have been established as basic tools for the implementation of environmental programs. There are investigations and plans related with handling of waste in colleges. Unfortunately, there is a lack of handling, awareness and applicability of the regulations both in general waste produced by schools and in hazardous waste resulting from laboratory practices. Hazardous waste in chemistry laboratories of educational institutions are both liquid and solid, whose environmental impact is a consequence of inadequate disposal by dumping in drains or by the incorporation of general solid waste to landfills, causing contamination of air, soil and rivers and negative effects in the human health. The proposal that was developed from June 2018 to June 2019 with the aim of promoting awareness in the educational community and in particular, taking the IED PARCELAS school as a model in the municipality of Cota, consists of the construction of a didactic tool that allows the proper handling of hazardous waste in chemistry laboratories. It is important to build a didactic unit within the curriculum of the natural sciences that allows for awareness and consciousness of the care and protection of the environment and thus generate a school culture in each of the academic activities. To achieve this transformation of behavior, education is the main tool to implement from the first stages to the end of the entire educational process.
